A Home Church is for Belonging

Scott and Delores Horn 2014Scott and I have the privilege of attending a variety of churches. We see such beauty in each of them and how they are unique to the body of believers who call that church “home”. But ministering in different churches and having a place of true belonging are two different things.

What does a  home church mean to you? What does it mean to me? As Scott and I were praying together recently, I expressed my gratitude that God provides a “home church” for us. Scott looked at me and said, “That is what you need to write about this month”.

Our home church when in Louisiana is the Baton Rouge Vineyard. Last Sunday, after the sermon, I stood where I was, confessing and talking to the Lord. I was confident of my connection with him. However, the Holy Spirit seemed to be saying to me, go on up and receive prayer. There are prayer teams available after each service for anyone who wants prayer. This Sunday I headed over to a couple of women. Scott went to a husband/wife team for prayer. We each received what we needed.

“Make this your common practice: Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you can live together whole and healed. The prayer of a person living right with God is something powerful to be reckoned with.” James 5:16 & 17 The Message

The above verse is what I experience when receiving prayer from other believers. Scott and I need the touch of other brothers and sisters in Christ: to pray for us, to speak something the Lord is saying to them for us, and just to take an interest in our lives. Everyone needs to have a place of true belonging — God wants his house to be such a place.

Scott’s January Trip to California

Scott will be in California January 28 – February 4. Saturday he will facilitate a Leaders’ Retreat for Crossroads Community Church in Missiion Viejo. In addition, he will have meetings with the pastor, staff and elders during the week. Scott’s heart is to invest in the church every way he can during his visit.  He will also meet with other pastors and ministry partners in the area as time allows.
